Smash Bros Update Battleship Halberd

September 12, 2007 by Ian

It has arrived! The Battleship Halberd! It’s Meta Knight’s battleship…isn’t it?

This warship’s bow is dazzling!

This stage begins in a hangar on the high seas. The platform follows the Halberd as it departs.

Ooooh. It’s so dynamic!

Eventually, you land on the ship’s deck.

What you see in the background is a double-barreled battery. With an arm.

Use extreme caution near the double-barreled battery! It launches beams and missiles and even attacks with its arm.

Dodge it well and try to make it hit your foe!

The Battleship Halberd appears not only in multiplayer Brawl stages, but also plays a very important role in The Subspace Emissary. That role is something you’ll have to look forward to.

Smash Bros Brawl Update Lyn

September 11, 2007 by Ian

Lyn

A young girl from the Sacae plains, Lyn (whose true name is Lyndis) makes a guest appearance from the Game Boy Advance game Fire Emblem.

Lyn descends gallantly. She looks tough.

She wields what looks like a classical Japanese sword, so she’s similar to Samurai Goroh, but her sword strokes are a little different from his reckless slashing.

She crouches and builds up power…

She vanished?!

The flash of a blade!

You’ll get helplessly cut down if you suffer a solid blow from this blade. If you call her forth as your ally, grab your enemies to make them easier for her to hit.

The graphics look great when you see them on IGN’s website.  Everything is so clean.  I just don’t like the bullet sounds.

Braben: Manhunt 2 Damages the Gaming Industry.

September 10, 2007 by Ian

What he says may actually be true.  TV news channels will see gaming as only violence after Manhunt 2.  I can see Jack Thompson getting ready.  He’ll be happy is something I think most people can say for him.

Quote from David Braben

“I think at the root of this problem is that there’s still an expectation among parents that ESRB/PEGI/BBFC ratings can be ignored – possibly based on their experience of games when they were younger,” he told CVG.

“There have been a few games that have strange ratings like Gears of War (18). That does not make sense to me. Why is it not a 15? Okay, there are some slightly gruesome bodies hanging up in the first section of the game, but this is no more than you’d expect in a 15 film like Alien Vs Predator or The Terminator films.

“This means that when a more genuine 18 comes along, parents assume it is no worse than Gears of War, and is perhaps why Manhunt 2 was banned, as they felt they could not give it the same rating as Gears. Having said that, from what I’ve heard of Manhunt 2 (I haven’t had the chance to play it), it is not the sort of game the industry should be making, as it is inevitably going to attract controversy.

Zach and Wiki Boxart

This is a good sign, the boxart sucks that means the game will be good.  Good games always have bad boxart Metroid for example.

Worms Open Warefare 2 Review

September 9, 2007 by Ian

IGN Review 8.7

IGN says that Worm’s open warfare 2 is light years better than its prequel and much funner.  The graphics are crisper and it is more of a worms game.  Read more at IGN ds.  Screenshots:

Metroid vs Metroid

September 9, 2007 by Ian

The graphics we’ve seen thus far on the Wii haven’t done much to dispute comparisons that describe the system as an overclocked GameCube. Game developers have achieved success building games around the Wii’s obvious strength, the motion-sensitive Wii Remote, rather than focusing on the graphics. Games such as Rayman Raving Rabbids and Mario Party 8 sell well, but the core gaming audience still needs its high poly-counts and fancy shader effects. Fortunately, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has arrived in time to prove that the Wii is capable of delivering just such an excellent graphics experience.

Retro Studios, already well trained in coaxing performance out of the GameCube in past Metroid Prime games, did a fantastic job upgrading the series for the Wii. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has surpassed Metroid Prime 2: Echoes in all of the major graphics categories. Corruption has better artwork, higher-resolution textures, improved enemy models, highly detailed environments, and extensive high dynamic range lighting. We put together a collection of screenshot comparisons to illustrate the improvements in Metroid Prime 3 on the Wii.

Galactic Federation soldiers still have problems with survivability, but at least they have more accurate lighting and increased armor detail.
